The muscles that you use with your barbell will be next; these are usually heavier and focus on larger muscles. The last step is to work on muscles that you can use a machine with. Sometimes the machine requires you to use muscles that you already used to some degree with the dumbbells, but this is not a large problem.

    A good tip to follow is to not use painkillers after working out. After the workout, avoiding acetaminophen or ibuprofen is your best bet to learning how to deal with the pain of working out. The pain, in recent studies, has been shown to be affected more by placebos than actual painkillers. Your blood can actually get thin, and your stomach can actually be damaged, by taking these medications. Just drink a lot of water and stretch instead. Proper hydration does more for fighting pain than any over the counter medication.

You just need to approach this with health in mind. A great way to get started is to get your physicians blessing on your workout and start as soon as you can.
